No problems SJC, Im saying with a NZ R8 Clubsport at equvalent of £15K the UK based one is not worth £22K. You disagree, no problem. Your comment on the exchange rate doesnt make sense we are talking of a near indentical product in different locations. Similar to say a GTS in Dover compared to one in Inverness, albiet a greater distance, so there must be some relationship between the two. Anyway Im with EH*Rob, with the UK prices the way they are Id import an R8 from down under. This is exactly what others in this forum are doing.
Anyway Ive no problem with our difference of opinion, its what makes the world go around. Good old competitive spirit.

Rich

PS: Oh, my Monaro comment was alluding to the fact that Monaro prices are more closely aligned with second hand down under ones than comparative HSV prices. I think they should be equivalent, hence my original post.

I have been trying to let this thread die as I think "ringram" is totally wrong..........................

But it keeps coming back so here is my opinion.

1. The HSV is not just a Holden with bits bolted on.....That is like saying an AMG is just a Merc with bits bolted on.
Anyone who has been to the factory will know what goes into a HSV

2. All the upgrades to standard Holdens were first designed and installed by HSV eg. Headers, Exhaust, Suspension,
Bushes, Diff, Short Shifter, Mafless, PCM, etc

3. There is no correlation between the UK and OZ prices at all....................

4. There are only 31 UK GTS (OZ R8 Clubsport) and 13 GTS-R (OZ GTS)

5. There were 250 Monaro last year and another 150 this year.

6. I have wanted a Monaro since watching the launch of the concept car live on the web..........But every time I go for
a test drive I arrive in my GTS and I am disappointed to find my car is a superior drive in every way.......Maybe 05 will be better?

7. The UK 05 VXR (OZ HSV GTO) is still a diluted HSV as it is missing the big brakes and the new T56 gearbox among other things.

8. A car is only worth what you can sell it for, but I have no hesitation in saying that a Standard Vauxhall Monaro is in no way worth the same as
a HSV GTS (UK spec) and remember I love the Monaro so this is a less biased view than you might expect.......

Can we now let this thread die...........................

If Ringram or anyone else can tell me how as a UK domicle/resident, I can import a Clubsport R8 & get it through the ESVA test with all the associated hassle, please let me know. As far as I can tell, it is not possible, due to the car being RHD & HSV/Holden producing more than a certain number (300 ? ) of cars a year! This bureaucracy is to protect UK car sales, as if the cars were LHD a normal SVA test would suffice.
I believe the new 6.0 ltr Monaros imported into the U.K cannot use the lastest (much sweeter) gearboxes due to some emmission regulation linked to the ESVA.
Linden SV got around this by importing CAPA cars, which in AUS. are classified as a manufacturer & produce less than the 300(?) cars p.a.

The new gearbox has different ratio's, so the drive by noise test is now done in a different gear to the old box, and because of this it no longer passes the noise test!!!

So no improved gearbox for the UK...........................

I bought my GTS-R VX1 from a dealer in Enfield last March trading in an old style 2 year old E320 Merc and doing a reasonable deal. Reverting to all the previous comments for me whatever I paid its worth every penny.

During the deal and again as I drove away the dealer commented that if I ever want to sell he would always buy it back -- He's got a long wait.

John If you really need the cash it could be an option.
