p.s. Welcome to the best forum biggrin
Tuesday August 24th, it's on my calendar now. Is it supposed to be "Thunder Road"? Saw some clips of a Supra going fast on it on YouTube.......

Anyone have a link to the standing mile event? I'm in........
The fastest I've been in the G8 is 161mph.... smile
I'm not sure how fast I can get in just a mile....... frown
It'd be cool to find out.....

Mike have you checked on SVA stuff with you bringing it over? Shouldnt be an issue, if you pick up from Southampton you drive past a few members on here, perhaps sort out a mini welcome meet

Shakey is great, its cheap and I like that, surface isnt as hot as the pod but on road tyres grip can be better. Plus its a damn site closer to you

Where in Wales you based?

BTW, our 1/4s are uphill
SVA? That is another test in addition to MOT testing? Dang..... mad

We are living in Penarth, Wales. Nice town...... We were at that International Food & Drink Festival in Cardiff yesterday.....

Shakey sounds cool..... beer

Yep, Penarth, Wales. I take it wellies are rain boots?

The weather has been pretty awesome the last month. We've been here since the end of May / early June......

Hey Mark / 007 VXR:

I'm starting to learn my way around the site better. I see that you have a supercharged 6.0 liter...... Awesome set up!

What does it run the 1/4 mile in?

Gotta top speed you've topped it out at? smile

Cool man......

It's easier for LHD cars than right - as we have a very quiet protectionist regime, where cars are concerned.

Your car will still have to pass construction and use regs, but if you have left dipping headlamps (or take up the right dip), make the daytime running lights into indicators, and have amber bulbs, then you should be fine. thumbup

yank cars have level beam patterns so there shouldnt be any problem with that element at least.

There is, as you still need to block off the RHS on dipped.

Welcome to Wales. I'm a bit further down the coast from you in Porthcawl. There are about 7 or 8 of us in this area with either Monaro (GTO) and VXR8 (G8).I think there will be at least 2 of us going to Thunder Road from South Wales on 24th October. Hope to see you on the road.

Wow, this thread is kinda blowin' up! smile

Again, thank you all for the insight on driving a LHD / Pontiac in the UK. I definitely appreciate all of the input.

I just got back from doing some grocery shopping, and on the way I ran into this dude named Vinny that is also from the Penarth, Wales area. He has a 1979 Pontiac Firebird (electric blue color) with a carberator sticking out of the hood & a roll cage (LHD). I went for a ride in it. It was pretty fun.....

My wife is working for Dow Corning at the Barry, Wales site. It's her, I, and our 2 daughters (hence the 4 door Pontiac G8). The girls go to day care on Mondays, Tuesdays, & Fridays and I watch them on Wednesdays & Thursdays.......

It's not a bad gig, and our girls are pretty adorable.... smile

I'd be down to grab a quick pint or somethin' lol smile
I was thinking of stoping at Monkfish's place to get my car MOT'ed on the way back to Wales.

  • Modded / cammed / blown VXR8's - Got any suggestions where I should get my car MOT tested at?

What's up Charlie / broadslide - Holy snap! I just looked up what a VXR 500 is.... OMG.... nice! Supercharged 6.0 litre, awesome!

Also, where do you like to get your petrol at? Tesco 99 momentem, Shell V Power, or BP Ultimate?

Maybe I'll eventually start a 'Wales to Thunder road' thread or something?

Thanks again all! smile

the maps are for 95octane mike so save your money. I used to run tesco99, yes its 99octane but its an e10 mix and found the calorific performance not worth the premium. I even noticed more kr on that stuff than on regular. Remember its RON here not MON so dont get too hung up on the ON. Good fuel i find that the Esso Super is rather consistent but end of the day just run with whatever makes you feel better!

Stig - Thanks man.....

My car is tuned right now for U.S. 93 octane, which I believe equates to either the Tesco 99, Shell V-Power 98, or the BP Super 97 (all RON's I think).....

I forget the exact calculation, but adding the MON + RON divided by 2 I think gives you the octane rating. I always ran either Shell or BP Premium at home, but I've heard good things about the Tesco 99.

I saw that dyno analysis by that Thorney Motorsports did. And even Top Gear showed some gains on both HP & TQ by using the higher tier stuff......

Just wanted to see what people like to put in their tanks. Especially the cammed & blown VXR's..

I only use v power (99) or tescos 99 , but i have a S/C biggrin

important to find a busy garage if you use (99) as it goes off quicker than regular IIRC smile

My mistake, I thought V-Power was 98 RON, if it's 99 RON all the better. Thanks for that. I agree about finding a busy place that uses 99...... That Thorney testing showed that the Tesco had a better / longer shelf life, but they (Tesco) is a sponsor of them.... lol

P.S. - It seems everytime I check you're guys' (VXR8's & Monaros signatures / mods) every other person has a damn supercharger! I may have to get a 1900 Magnacharger, or Harrop, or Walkinshaw blower while I'm out here to keep up with you guys! lol smile

I'll take a good Transmission Tune 1st! lol smile

Much cheaper if you get a used one, now and again one of us wants the newest toy, heck I'm on my second and thinking about a new one!

What's the problem with your trans tune?
