I've been on the phone for a bit to guy who does custom stainless steel exhausts.

I need to decide on the best option, or at least go in with a bit of knowledge as to what's best for the car. Obviously I'm disappointed I can't put in a full duplex system because of the petrol tank so that's not an option. Here's a couple of questions i've come up with though:

1) Do I take it up to 3" after the cat (which is 2.5", right?) and run 2 x 3" to the backbox and join up there?
2) ... join both 2.5" after the cat into 1 3" and run that straight to the backbox?

He was talking about making up a custom backbox to suit the pipework and car which I'd be happy for him to do - I don't know if this makes any difference to the above 2 questions/points?

I'd like something with a nice growl on idle and a bit of noise on full chat but I don't want to be getting any asbos and I'd like to cruise on the motorway without needing earplugs or sounding a Saxo a la baked-bean can.

As you may have guessed - I'm totally ignorant to this whole exhaust business so any help appreciated smile

I think you need to speak with some of the Scottish clan. Simon (Moanro5.7) had an exhaust made, a short while ago.

I hear you - spoken to Si and Bob. Problem is, there are other things working magic on their cars that I don't have so I can't expect the same results going down the same exhaust (only) route.

Si's is the 'custom' job whereas Bob's has the noise I want.

Complex, I know. I should be female.

The exhaust on my car is custom made and to my spec 2 go along with mods to the air intake and in time my heads and cam. But the compny i use will make the exhaust to ur spec for what u want. if u want the noise that comes off Bobs car its all down to the tail pipe and i have twin exit and bob has a single oval. AAS would make ur exhaust and what ever tail pipe u want just ask Woody.

I tried a few places in Scotland and all i got lots emmmm yeah we should be able to do it which did not fill me with confience.

AAS has done a few cars on here and there work in no in question just ask the guys from the north east who have there cars in at AAS and we all have different specs of exhaust.

Wood has been down and seen there set up.

Its up 2 u mate depends on what u want and what noise u want

I was talking to Stainless Creations - apparently he's done a few (Blue Monaro and a Ute).

The prices he's talking about keep my wallet happy, too!

Like Si said, quite a few of us on here have had systems made up by AAS, and I think its safe to say none of us have been disappointed. The people who have seen my headers and exhaust have been very impressed by the quality, fit and finish of them. I also get my servicing done there as they are very knowledgeble on the LS and other V8s from the US.

yip they have the car belongs to Ryan a hair dresser and its sounded good but when i phoned them they were very ifie and dont have real experiance of theses cars. AAS are very resnable on threre prices i would phone them and after u have talked to them then make ur mind up.

They quoted me £1000 for headers and they had never done them before. AAS was just over that for headers and cats and some other work and i would put there work up against there work anytime.

But the decision is yours

Mine is booked into AAS for three days next month after seeing the quality of the work they did for Si.
Headers, Cats, fit a Wortec cat back but modify to fit VXR8 Wortec style tips. Circa £1200 all in.
I'm going to ask them to change my diff and gearbox oil to Royal Purple too.

I was in Newcastle last weekend so dropped in to check the place out. Not much to look at from the outside but the calibre of cars in there spoke volumes! A Boss Mustang getting the works, a Vette for headers and all manner of race cars being worked on. Suffice to say I was filled immediately with confidence.

Give them a call, they're a very friendly bunch but be prepared for a wait as they were booked 6 weeks in advance when I called which again tells a story. They take a 10% deposit on the quoted price but Si tells me they overprice on the quote generally (but not on the final invoice, if it's cheaper you'll obviously pay the lower price)

How often should we be replacing the differential oil?

I'm thinking I probably need this done, as my G8 has seen some decently spirited driving and some dragstrip time.....

The only experience that matters, is an ability to fabricate and use quality parts.

I'm not saying any of the places listed are good or bad as I have no direct experience of any, just giving options.

OJZ Engineering I can give a proper opinion of, and their work is absolutely first class.
