Tiger_kpt 520 posts 18 months | Friday 30th July Having owned a SC Monaro VXR and now an NA Monaro VXR - I can safely say that NA does rule! Dear heavenly Spirit, Thank ye for providing us with cold air intakes, FAST intake manifolds, underdrive pullies, wild camshafts, uprated valve springs, multi angle valves, CNC heads, long tube headers, performance exhaust systems, EFI Live and the courageous might to break free from the followers. I beseech you to release the anoining of the holy spirit to smite all the evil spirits unto their knees before us on the quarter mile battlefield. The angel of the lord shalt smite the evil spirits who willingly choose to use turbochargers, superchargers, intercoolers, ribbed belts, waste gates and forged pistons against us. Our fallen comrades and the dyno day battlefields lest not we forget! Amen!

Please someone explain In the 80s some Japanese arcade games had hilarious English translations. This video is a homage to the greatest of them all.

Having owned a SC Monaro VXR and now an NA Monaro VXR - I can safely say that NA does rule! The voice of experience Having driven about 3 FI cars I was quite shocked about how badly they performed. Nowhere near as sprightly as the NA setups Ive had. Years later Im still waiting for an M6 VXR8 to outperform mine on the strip. Sure in the middle of winter or on a long drive with little heatsoak they might be ok. But in heavy traffic, summer or basically 9/10 they are equivalent to faecal matter. IMO of course! Though nicely verified above by someone who has owned both. I would be more interested to see how Piers' is performing as I think he has set his up closer to optimal depending on how efficient his intercooler is..

If your talking intake temps, on the last trip it was maintaining between 10-15 over ambient in 44* temps in italy. So not too bad I don't think. Still got some work to do at the top end of the map and been away in Sweden alot. Hopefully should have everything worked out by September for a dyno run Need some dyno time also to look at the timing, as i've had to pull a fair amount to prevent knock in places, and no doubt have gone to far (but better safer for now)

If you can find an AFR mod table based on IAT or IVT it might be better to enrichen a tad under high intake temps than pull timing across the board. Of course you can just use the IAT timing mod table as well. But adding a little fuel may allow you to retain somewhat closer to ideal timing while addressing knock. Depends on how far you want to go.

Depends on how far you want to go. Intake temps weren't the issue with knock. Was mainly seeing some at load at low rpm due to the ability of the charger. Tried to slope the map in the appropriate places. Fuelling wise i've now changed my PE mode to come in based on MAP pressure rather than purely throttle position to hopefully help also. May to able to up the timing a little in the same areas. But will wait for a dyno. Was pulling a bit for safety whilst logging/tuning in Italy as it was getting stupidily hot.

Time for a bigger intercooler By way of interest what was/is your max timing under full boost around say 4500rpm?

Been working my way up the map getting things polished. Few recent runs at higher boost were kicking limp mode. Have that sorted now so need to do more logging. Seen full boost (currently about 9psi) at 3500 with 17* (commanded 21.5 reduced due to IAT modifier) (very retarded) been referencing some other Maggie maps to start pushing it up again.

What are you looking at presently? not sure havent started looking yet, i want the mildest cam but with the best performance if you can have a balance, i do 10k+ miles a year so reliablity and driveabiltiy is a key factor. any recommendations rich?
