Vxr boxs are very rare. An omega one wont fit.
Your best bet is to either email a member called "raving" or contact gmperformance parts.
The americans are reluctant to sell me one

vxrguy 12 posts 2 months | Friday 30th July thanks for the advice, The other option is to rebuild it, ive got access to a fully kitted out garage so may take it apart this weekend and see what the damage is. Is this a common problem on these cars? Not to happy after spending all that money and have it go down the drain within two weeks.

Bought private or dealer ?
If dealer, the dealer is going to have some responsibilities here.
And under what driving conditions ? They dont just randomy go bang cruising along the motorway.

What actually happened?
Ive had mine apart but it wasnt cost effective to rebuild it with new parts, i did manage to source a used viper one for spares.
I believe the c5 vette's came with the same ratio box as the later vxr's. M12 t56 2.97 1st gear.

I think Monkfish do rebuilds on gearboxes. It might just be a dropped shift fork pad

mfp4073 157 posts 11 months | Saturday 31st July Welcome (if you can say that?) to the trashed gearbox club!!!! My gearbox works fine,Royal Purple oil and Rip Shifter just put in...shame about the noise and clunk coming from the damn thing. Last week I took the the car to Falcon motorsport in Middlesbrough for a second opinion, and they confirmed something was not quite right....the car is now only used as a last resort until I can get it fixed.

I dont think that gearbox would work as the op has a 2005 vxr, so i would assume ls2 which would mean M12 ratio or 2.97 first gear.

Did you read the site dude?
THESE BOXES ARE SPECIFICALLY LISTED TO SUIT:
VY TO VZ 6.0 LT MOTORS LS2,L76 & L98.
Who cares if one of the ratio's is different?

Richard im not trying to say that it wont work, the 6ltr bit threw me abit, but i know most people with ros say that the m12 ratio t56 is loads better than a mm6 ratio t56. I know that the m12 t56 is also suppose to be a nicer t56 to use due to the double/triple cone synchros. I wasnt arguing to trying to be awkard ringram, i was just trying to explain the difference between the early and the later monaro t56's

vxrguy 12 posts 2 months | Saturday 31st July Got my car from a car auction so no warranty. And I wasn't thrashing it .. Occassinally it was making a clunking/grinding noise on long trips didn't manage to narrow it down to what it could be as it wasn't doing it all the time. My original plan was to look at it this weekend but too late now! Gsd your gearbox gone too? How did you manage that?

Neither was I being difficult mate, the CAPS are because I was quoting the site (copy and paste). I thought you may have missed the text.
Im sure it will bolt right in, whether the ratios are different enough to mean its a bad idea who knows. Im pretty sure Granada said he had to buy the M12 specially as the UK monaro's usually had different ratio's, which suggests maybe most ran the MM6 anyway. Depends what a fix/repair is going to cost in comparison. Yours was pretty trashed.

Vxrguy mine went bang drag racing, i think it was playing up before hand though.
When i eventually got it apart i had broke 3 bearings, 2 shafts and 4 gears.
My car wouldnt move and i was locked in gear, if it still drives then it should be rebuildable. Monkfish do rebuilds, if your good with a set of spanners you can do it yourself.
The M12 t56 is what the americans got in all the gtos as the ratios suit the car alot better.

The only fact here is the poor sods car is ed I agree, what I didn't very eloquently construe was that they usuallygo during high speed gear changes, thats all. I should know. But now I've got a box I know will last a lifetime. Expensive peace of mind though.....

vxrguy 12 posts 2 months | Monday 2nd August Spent the weekend got the gearbox apart and its a mess in there.. Luckily i've managed to source one from the states and this guy is willing to ship it over to me. Sent the money across by paypal just sitting and waiting now till it gets here. I don't drive my cars hard all the time, but a car that supposedly meant to be high powered it should take high speed gear changes.. ive had manual m3 and audi s4's i've driven them much harder and never any problems with them.
