Hi all,
Like most people seem too , I have left it untill I Have A problem before getting round to joining.
Just gave the vxr a blast up the ring road, and now I have a nasty top end sounding rattle. Anyone in the Bristol area that Really knows about these engines? Its had a bit of oil coming up the dipstick tube and intermittent engine management warning for a couple of weeks, but this to me sounds far more terminal. any help would be much appreciated.

Difficult to say although VXR500s weren't intercooled when really they should have been, especially to cope with the heat soak of this hot weather. Not worth speculating so my advice is not to drive it and get the AA to relay it to one of the specialists like Monkfish Performance.

Alternatively, remember it shares it's engine with a Corvette so look for specialists in that area.

Don't drive it or it could be much more expensive. The blocks are alloy and easily scrapped if say you've broken a piston. Don't bother taking in to a Vauxhall dealer, most will just look at you blankly when it turns out not to be a Movano van.

Could be a bust piston and wouldnt be the first if it was. But you might be lucky like another member and it may just be a loose bolt.
As above take it to someone who is familiar with the vxr500. MF is a good start.

Though if you can postpone going there until my car is finished that would be best hehe

I would call & then take it to Monkfish, and not mess around.....

oil out dipstick not uncommon, believe monkfish cable tie the dipstick in place to stop it its that common. As for the rest - get it to a specialist dealer/tuner to have them listen to it as others have suggested unless you want an excuse to buy a new bigger block.........

Sounds like exactly the same problem I had on mine. Unfortunately it turned out to be a cracked piston (no 7). Don't drive it. Mine was done under warranty and they changed all 8 pistons. No other damage. Could be a good oppurtunity to uprate pistons. The oil out of dipstick problem was cured after that as well.

As per the other advice, dont run it.

We can get it collected for you if needed.

And mine - it cracked 2 pistons. Do as Roger at Monkfish says and allow them to collect it, the people they use are very good and extremely carefull with your car. Lots of options coming up if its just a cracked piston so not necessarily an expensive forged jobbie like myslef and a few others have done recently.
